We have just recently done a chemistry lab in which we react various aqueous solutions together to see if a precipitate forms. One of these was the reaction between sodium hydroxide and barium chloride, which resulted in a white precipitate. However, I was under the impression that both sodium chloride and barium hydroxide were soluble. Is this possible, or was there contamination involved? If it is possible, what is the precipitate?
