Electrical -recessed lighting dimmable?

I recently had recessed lights put in with dimmers. When i turn the lights on the lights appear yellow at times when they warm up they are bright. Also at times one may not turn on but other times it may, it just appears yellowish until it warms up. Is this common with dimmable lights? are there better lights I can use? why does this happen?
