What is the smell coming from daughters sippy cup?

We are transitioning my 10 mo old daughter to a sippy cup. I pack the milk in a medela bottle and then the babysitter puts it in a sippy cup (advent) when she is ready to drink it. If we leave the milk in the cup even in a cooler the milk starts to smell bad. Is it going bad or is the sippy cup reacting to the milk?
